"Kansas Abortion Clinics May Close: How Godly Leadership Impacts a Region"
A lot of prayer goes up to end abortion in the Kansas City area. This article reports the fruit of that prayer.
The world is a strange place. It is filled with reactions—quick ones. Anger covers the world, even among the privileged moral class. It is common for an evangelical to say, “I cannot believe that our nation doesn’t see the wrong in abortion.” Yet the Bible of us evangelicals leaves no surprises at such behavior.
The Bible shows us:
We, by nature, are quick to speak and slow to hear. We, by nature, do not like God in our knowledge, so we suppress ideas about Him when they crop up. We, by nature, either openly love evil, or make a sort of self-worshipping affair out of being good without help, craftily hiding the evil that swims freely in the heart—self-righteousness evidenced by condemning others for the very same things that we do. This is why at the Judgment, God will compare our words with our actions and thoughts. There will be no excuse. Our lives will condemn us. By our own standards, we will send ourselves to Hell, just like we continually sent others to Hell, so to speak, in our mind, by our own judgments against them.
The message of the Bible is not that some men are good and some men are bad—thus the ones who hate abortion are the good ones. Not so.
According to the Bible, man has a sort of ability to delight in the goodness of what he knows is right with his mind, but from the heart, he is unable to actually meet the standard. Conceptually he can see that one thing is wrong and one thing is right, but though he has this knowledge, and though he may delight in it, he is unable to change his heart, so most men result to hiding what’s in their heart. Some people even seclude themselves for years trying to change themselves by their own force. Little by little, man allows the heart to take over the mind. If given enough time, man would become completely evil.
The good news of the Bible is that Jesus Christ will save us, not only from the penalty of our sin, but also its power. The blood He shed is not only for forgiving, but also for transforming. God changes our nature as a gift of love that glorifies His name. For His own sake He has done it, and yet His love toward us is deep. Yes, the more truly He shows us His love, the more truly He glorifies His name. Thus believers say of the experience of His love: it is better than life. Indeed it is. Those are not the words of a sophisticate, but of someone who loves pleasure.
I can believe that our nation can’t see the evil of abortion. What I can’t believe is that I’m saved from myself. I have power to invite men into this joy, or I can hide it from them and tell them they should be better just by trying. I could say, “You see how clearly wrong abortion is with your mind, so change your heart!” Such a message can only make someone angry, for their helplessness mocks them. Or I could say, “None is righteous. No, not one. So believe in Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.”
When I first believed in Christ, my friend said, in effect, “I knew that being born again was real when I saw how different you were as soon as you believed.” Trust me. I wasn’t trying harder after I realized God was holy. He changed me.
I am a witness that Jesus Christ is alive. It is evidence by my transformed life. Believe in Him, and you will be saved.
